reggiesmall.jpgOur friends over at Ice Cream Man have posted some amazing shots from their sweet time at Bonaroo.  Get it, sweet?  Anyway, amazing photos you ask?  Of course!  In addition to the many wonderful things Ice Cream Man does for the people, they have a damn talented group of photographers, and with Abbey Braden on board, who is up at all hours doing what she does best, their is no comparison  Below is one of Abbey’s photos of our beloved Reggie Watts in the Comedy Tent.  Reggie does a great M.I.A. we are told.

It’s exciting to post about artists we are keen on, especially when it’s a group some may not have heard of before. whether a million people read this or not, it just feels good to put it out there and keep up to date on who we like. Which brings me to this group from Moncton, New Brunswick…Canada that is, that put together something great. They call themselves Radio Radio, and they make me want hop on my bike and sway from side to side (while listening to Radio Radio through my headphones) like Jemaine and Bret in Flight of the Conchords. Incorporating their native Chiac, a dialect that combines Acadian French and English, good beat making, and quick raps, I am inclined to say I like what I hear. Apparently these guys have a sense of humor too, perhaps too smart for their own good. Below is the video for the single, also the title of their debut album, Cliche Hot.  All that needs to be established really is, that this track is basically about image obsession, hence the title of course.

It’s refreshing to find out about artists who are using their powers for good, and Radio Radio don’t seem like they are trying to force you to be impressed, they want to put out good music for you to enjoy. If you live up yonder in Canada check our their dates for some summer tour action. The album is avail via Bonsound Records, and iTunes.

Children destroy Brooklyn this weekend

Children are an exciting new band on Kemado Records that play with so much speed and intensity that you can’t help but get excited about them.

Last Saturday they played outside of the KCDC Skateshop to 500 screaming teenage skaters. They even encited a moss pit full of size 28 inch waisted, adrenaline filled kids slamming away. Their brand of thrash/speed metal fit perfectly with the energized skate crowd. This was by far one of the coolest shows that I have ever witnessed in Williamsburg.

For those you that missed out, I truly feel sorry for you.  All of N11th from Bedford Ave to Wythe was blocked off for this event. Filling the street was a huge Emerica (skateshoe) bus, Redbull bus, pro skaters doing demos and signing autographs, and the bands playing on the street. I even spotted Dustin Dollin (pro skater) being chased by hundreds of kids as he signed numerous autographs.

This band needs to go on a skate rock tour now. It makes you wonder how long till Thrasher Magazine finds out about them. Check out this video of them playing at this party.

Later on in the evening they played another backed show with labelmates, TK Webb & The Visions.tk-webbunionpool08.JPG

Be on the lookout for TK’s debut album, titled “Ancestor”, hitting the shelves in September. It’ll be a garage boogie/blues stomper. Before TK Webb release two solo albums on Social Registry to a massive amount of critical acclaim from every top Brooklyn artist. Now he has teamed up with a full band to give us a fuller sounding album that will excite any new and old rock n’ roll fan.

Chairlift pack out Williamsburg Music Hall

This Saturday Brooklyn hosted a massive amount of free shows. Each one had its own identity yet brought a wide range of talent. As part of a blogger festival(After The Jump) and Make Music NYC festival, Chairlift played an amazing set (4:30pm) at Brooklyn’s best new venue, the Music Hall of Williamsburg.

As kids were cooling off with free ice cream and vitamin water they crowded inside to see the band perform a tremendous set from their upcoming debut album. Highlights included “Evident Utinsel”, “Bruises”, and “Planet Health”. You could even see members of Yeasayer, Ra Ra Riot, Mixel Pixel, The Big Sleep, and many others watching along in appreciation.

The Muslims ruled NYC/Brooklyn

This amazing new band from California came over the New York to play a large slew of shows. And what we got was a glimpse into what is about to be one of the biggest new bands. The Muslims are destinted to be big. Those of you that were lucky enough to catch them now will forever remember these shows as an important part of musical history.

Filled with a fire garage pop feel that combines angular guitars, these youngsters know how to make people dance while still maintaining true artist entigrity. Each song captures the long lost spirit of Television and Modern Lovers. If any of you out there miss The Strokes, well then you need to check out these boys as they’ve got the stuff that will instantly replace that craving.

Out of all of their sets, they’re best had to be at Union Pool, where the crowd continued to sing along to every song throughout their set. The highlights of the night came when you could hear the crowd singing back all of the words to “Brightside” and “Nightlife”. Each song sounded like an instant rock classic, even though they have only been released on a limited edition vinyl.

Tons of rumors floating around about how tons of hip indie labels are chasing after this hot new band, so expect to see a cool new release soon. Until then do an ebay search for their sold out vinyl releases, as well as go to their label site, 1928 Recordings for album purchase

One of our favorite Brooklyn duos, Free Blood,  have just issued two cool U.S. only limited edition 12″s that are long overdue.

For years we have all been dancing to these great tunes (”Royal Family”, “Grumpy”, and “Quick and Painful”) in dark basement clubs all over NYC/Brooklyn. Now for the first time in the U.S. can you get these great songs on wax, thanks to Rong Music and DFA.For those of you in the UK, you can get these songs on wax from the label Adventures Close To Home or on import at Piccadilly Records in Manchester.

John Pugh and Madeline Davy have been playing the loft party scene for many years now and are finally ready to unleash their debut album in the fall. For those of you that don’t know these two used to play in !!!, but quit to pursue Free Blood full time. But for now be stoked to get these 12″s to play at your club night or as collectibles.

Check them out live this Saturday June 21 at Andrew WK’s new club, Santo’s Party House.

kotki dwa are a band we like

Tired of feeling drab?? Well not today! UK band kotki dwa, from none other than England, the land where more money is spent on music than anywhere else in the world, has given birth to yet another group we are happy to present. These men produce good pop music that just makes you want to want to hug someone. Tracks likeRobin’s Clog’s brings to a mind another feel good UK band, Los Campesinos!, and Kiss and Make Up has got a some 8-bit action to accompany those happy thoughts.

Aside from their many musical talents checklist, like creating their album art work and home made music videos, they can check winner of the Tate Tracks award, where London’s Tate Modern picked twelve bands to pick a work of art in the museum to write a song too, beating out some heavy hitters.

We’re keeping our eyes out for US gigs one day, hopefully as soon as they graduate university! Until then, you can get yourself a copy of their album Only You Are Sleeping, along with a few other singles via the band’s website.
